Derek!

Should we rename this article 'Derek!', now that we've seen that it was actually called that?--Rammingspeed 18:12, June 10, 2010 (UTC)

No, because Derek 2 wasn't Derek! 2, or Derek 2!, or whatever. ManUCrazy (talk) 18:13, June 10, 2010 (UTC)

Surprise

What does it mean by surprise competitor? Llamaman201 (talk) 13:16, April 23, 2011 (UTC)

Basically, it was a first-round dropout that won the Best Engineered. Strange, considering two robots it beat were at least second-round semi-finalists.-- STORM II  19:13, December 2, 2011 (UTC)

Series 3 auditions

I was reading through the webiste with the story of Derek ([1]), and it turns out Derek actually first entered Series 3, but did not enter Series 4.

"The May bank holiday weekend 1999 approached as did the first of our auditions ... So DEREK and his merry band of supporters found their way down to the outskirts of London for our first audition, it performed reasonably well destroying breeze block walls and running up and down ramps but the organisers told us to go home and finish DEREK off and put some body armour on it as all it was at that time was an open box. So what did we do? - well we went to the pub of course ... after some well deserved refreshments we decided to head home and redesign it but before we left the pub Andy Groves wanted a go driving DEREK and against Ian's better judgment he had a go. I can still see it now, the pub landlord was having a quiet pint out on the veranda overlooking the car park and Andy let rip with DEREK ... There was a bang and a little mini metro that was sitting there minding its own business took a whack to one of it's wheels and nearly rolled into the next car, it's tyre just ballooned up into an egg shape and everyone except me and ANDY legged it to their car's. It was left to me and Andy to pick up this lump of steel, rubber and batteries and throw it into the back of Andy's Land rover Discovery and escape. I don't know what the landlord of the pub thought was happening but we did not give him chance to find out. DEREK developed over the next few months and we had many hours of fun with it, believe it or not this little robot could easily pull Andy's Land rover Discovery, I still have the video footage to prove it. We did not pursue auditions any further that year as we were moving into our new factory"
— What happened to Derek in 1999, and why they didn't enter Series 4

I will update the Series record accordingly Drop Zone mk2 (talk) 09:10, April 17, 2016 (UTC)

Did Derek immobilise Behemoth's one side?

So I recently just rewatched the Behemoth melee and noticed that when Behemoth charges into the flame pit with Derek! and attempts to flip it, it turns but is hit from the side from Derek! Before Disc-O comes into deal heavy blows to Behemoth, I noticed that Behemoth is already moving in a circle as if it has drive problems. So it made me wonder, did Derek! cause the problems for Behemoth and Disc-O only added insult to injury?! Diotoir the son of nemesis (talk) 20:47, July 16, 2020 (UTC)

It’s definitely a possibility, one I’ve half considered in the past, though not in any real depth. Behemoth does get clipped from the side by Derek 2, creating a notable gash in the side, and Behemoth seemingly drives ok back over the flame pit just before losing drive on that side. If the camera had then focused on Behemoth instead of Disc-O-Inferno we could be certain, but yeah it seemed to be struggling to get away from the Flame Pit, so I’m inclined to agree with you that Derek 2 initially caused the lost drive on one side.
