BBC confirms celebrities and mentors Edit

Celebrities and mentors confirmed http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/latestnews/2016/robot-wars-celebrities --Voyanuitoa (talk) 07:40, December 2, 2016 (UTC)

Noticing one of the mentors, it's probably a good idea that the celebrities are building their own robots this time, and not simply borrowing the others. I think that'd render one of the shows "obvious". CrashBash (talk) 07:54, December 2, 2016 (UTC)
You guys have the entire Game of Thrones and Harry Potter casts at your disposal and can't come up with a single celebrity I've heard of. Oh well. Interesting that they are still linking Shane Swan with Dantomkia. That and the references to the previous series seem to indicate this is a 2016 series episode not a 2017 series episode. Toon Ganondorf (t c) 08:06, December 2, 2016 (UTC)
Except it's already been confirmed it's being filmed alongside the 2017 series, which kinda makes it a 2017 series episode by default. CrashBash (talk) 08:18, December 2, 2016 (UTC)
When it is filmed shouldn't really have the final say. It's not like they can go back in time and film it before now. We don't count Extreme 1 episodes as Fifth Wars episodes, we look to the intention. Is there any more concrete than that? Toon Ganondorf (t c) 08:27, December 2, 2016 (UTC)
Because there'll probably be shots of Sabretooth and Thor in their 2017 guises. Realistically I don't think this counts as part of either series, so filming dates and the appearances of the mentors' robots should tie this moreso to 2017. ToastUltimatum 08:37, December 2, 2016 (UTC)
Another way to make a decision would be to see if it is released on DVD/Blu-ray alongside the 2017 Series, or if it gets it own release.--Voyanuitoa (talk) 08:39, December 2, 2016 (UTC)
That is true, but as of now, it's better to state it as a 2017 episode than a 2016 one. Also, throwing it out here, I know both double-acts. CrashBash (talk) 09:13, December 2, 2016 (UTC)
I just hope that the roboteers who've been commissioned to make the robots can also enter the main competition. Jimlaad43(talk) 08:59, December 2, 2016 (UTC)

Sir Killalot Tease and website Edit

I've noticed that the teaser image of Sir Killalot looks quite blurry around the sides and looks as if it's a screenshot from a potential teaser.

Also Angela Scalon has leaked an image of one of the competitors on a table, looking as if it's going to have its photo taken, so keep an eye out for the website just in case there's some changes.Diotoir the son of nemesis (talk) 15:26, December 2, 2016 (UTC)

TV presenter Dallas Campbell will be joining Suzi Perry. Confirmed by himself and Angela Scanlon. https://mobile.twitter.com/angelascanlon/status/804631231921029120 https://mobile.twitter.com/dallascampbell/status/804606339095924736 --Voyanuitoa (talk) 15:44, December 2, 2016 (UTC)

So, we've got what looks like a smaller version of Inshredable, and something that looks like it was built by Inertia Labs. They certainly look promising. CrashBash (talk) 07:42, December 12, 2016 (UTC)
I would say more PulverisoR.Diotoir the son of nemesis (talk) 09:45, December 12, 2016 (UTC)

Also with this clip it's possible we may get a trailer and that the website may change.Diotoir the son of nemesis (talk) 09:46, December 12, 2016 (UTC)

One of the robots looks like scraptosaur.--Tornado1927 (talk) 07:43, December 13, 2016 (UTC)

New preview video Edit

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p04m6f3v The BBC have posted what looks to be the opening pre-title sequence (roughly one and a half minutes long), it shows a few of the robots and the modified logo for the episodes. The program info for each episode (http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0873kb4) has been updated and mentions "some mystery pit hazards".--Voyanuitoa (talk) 14:22, December 22, 2016 (UTC)

That Carbide looking one looks awesome and then there's that pink axlebot...oh what a name.Diotoir the son of nemesis (talk) 14:45, December 22, 2016 (UTC)
Looks like the robots are destructive yet also flimsy enough to be able to destroy each other and create a lot of visual damage. Hope that massive intro clip isn't all the damage we see though, and I hope they use those those go-pro shots in the CPZ's (not the House Robot cameras) very sparingly as they make the action look flat at times. Robot Wars always needs the camera on the move to act like its keeping up with the action. Looks very exciting either way. Nweston8 (talk) 15:41, December 22, 2016 (UTC)

Actually, it showcases all of the robots at least once. So we've got...

  • Mini-Inshredable
  • Inertia-Labs-equse flipper
  • Blue baby Carbide
  • Front-hinged flipper
  • Axebot
  • Crusherbot
  • Pink Bladerunner
  • Half of Rotator

At least that's the best I can describe them. CrashBash (talk) 16:41, December 22, 2016 (UTC)

Based on that preview/title sequence alone, I'm impressed with how destructive most of the robots look so far, as well as the diversity of the designs that have been concocted by the celebrities taking part. Looks like we'll be in for a treat next week. VulcansHowl (talk) 17:03, December 22, 2016 (UTC)
Also based on the clip, one episode will feature Mini-Inshredable, I.L.-equse flipper, Crusherbot and Pink Bladerunner, the other will feature Blue baby Carbide, Front-hinged flipper, Axebot and Rotator 1/2. CrashBash (talk) 16:30, December 23, 2016 (UTC)
It's quite interesting how both Thor and Carbide are the only veteran robots shown in this.Diotoir the son of nemesis (talk) 18:05, December 23, 2016 (UTC)
I wouldn't see it as that surprising, given they're the highest ranking teams from the previous series taking part, having finished 4th and 2nd respectively. CrashBash (talk) 18:12, December 23, 2016 (UTC)
I know but I would have thought they'd show all the roboteers quickly as oppose to just two.Diotoir the son of nemesis (talk) 18:24, December 23, 2016 (UTC)
The pink thwackbot appears to be built by John Reid (this may be obvious to some who actually know who these celebrities are, I can't tell them from the roboteers, but I think John Reid is the one in the foreground when the guy with the glasses kisses the machine). Toon Ganondorf (t c) 02:40, December 24, 2016 (UTC)
Have to ask, but are we going to put the names of the eight robots on the pages or are we waiting until the episodes air? As a side note, for the main competition, should we write down the contestants in each round one battle and then leave the pages until the episode airs, like we did for the reboot? --WolfwingandSlaveLeia (talk) 14:49, December 24, 2016 (UTC)
Do we even know the names of the robots at this point? Don't think we do. CrashBash (talk) 15:06, December 24, 2016 (UTC)
Only the Pink axlebot has been named unofficially...it's quite the interesting name.Diotoir the son of nemesis (talk) 15:14, December 24, 2016 (UTC)

The Plan Edit

We're only a few days away from Battle of the Stars airing, and I was hopeful that the website would launch profiles for the celebrity robots, but it doesn't look as though that's going to happen. These specials air across two days, so if we want decent coverage of Episode 1 online before Episode 2 airs, we'll have to work very quickly, so I've got a plan in order.

There's two main things that need to be done right away:

  • Create articles detailing the competitors
  • Write the episode summaries

Only when the first of those things is done can we:

  • Write the Robot Histories on the new competitor articles

There's a couple of other things that will need doing, although these are lower priority and can probably wait:

I heard from Jimlaad away from the wiki that he wanted to work on episode summaries, so let me know if that's still true. If it's not, someone could do to take it over, or a combined effort could work.

I'll be working on the competitors, but we'll get the job done faster if people help. If you want to write a competitor article, make a small inconsequential edit to any article, then state in your edit summary that you're about to start. That way, nobody overlaps, and when the articles are finished, we can start writing the summaries.

Please note that the robot built by Jordan Stephens and John Reid has already been written offline. I'll publish that one as soon as their episode finishes airing.

That's it basically, if you want to do some wiki work on the days that Battle of the Stars airs, think of what you'd like to help with, and make sure you let everybody know before you start it. ToastUltimatum 15:39, December 24, 2016 (UTC)

I'll definitely cover the Celebrity Robot Wars page. I know it's minor, but I don't feel I'll be as committed as I could be to the others. All it needs really is the names of the robots, who won and the format of the BotS specials, although I have my suspicions. CrashBash (talk) 15:43, December 24, 2016 (UTC)
I am happy to spend my time re-watching the episodes on iPlayer and writing battle summaries. Once up, please go through it and grammar check it and make it more Wiki-esque, but I'll get the bulk of the episode up. I will include some screenshots of the battles which I will take, so wait for me to finish before also taking some. Jimlaad43(talk) 17:18, December 24, 2016 (UTC)
I put something on Shunt's talk page about its change because at the time I didn't know what to do with. According to this picture (https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CzTa-lBXAAA4L1L.jpg:large), none of the other house robots have been changed or upgraded. --WolfwingandSlaveLeia (talk) 17:55, December 24, 2016 (UTC)
Don't worry about the House Robots. I went to filming, I know what has and hasn't changed. ToastUltimatum 19:03, December 24, 2016 (UTC)
I'm up for updating the Weapons and List of Judges' Decisions articles when the opportunities come, and might also add Robot Histories for some of the BotS competitors as well. VulcansHowl (talk) 19:25, December 24, 2016 (UTC)
I'll update the UK Series Competitor Robot page, should the celeb robots be considered as part of the same team as the mentor or not?--Voyanuitoa (talk) 19:29, December 24, 2016 (UTC)
I'm happy to help Jimlaad write up battle summaries if he feels the help is needed on that front. Nweston8 (talk) 19:35, December 24, 2016 (UTC)
I will look to help with any of the little tasks if I have time, such as the Judges' decisions, and errors, such they be found. SpaceManiac888 (Talk) 20:08, December 24, 2016 (UTC)
@Voyanuita It's hard to answer that question right now but my current opinion would be no, the celebrity robots shouldn't count as robots belonging to their mentors. And Nick, if Jimlaad decides he's good for the episode summaries, you can just as easily fill out a Robot History. That said Jim, I would advise this: fill out the episode page with sections for each battle, then fill them one-by-one. That way, potential volunteers could work backwards and avoid an edit conflict. ToastUltimatum 20:51, December 24, 2016 (UTC)
I'm likely to write the whole thing in one go. I think it reads best if every part is written by the same person and then edited by someone else. I've done a lot of group projects in the past few years, and ones where you get 4 people's input stuck together doesn't flow as well. I'm happy for people to re-read and edit afterwards, but for the moment, I'd prefer to write it all. Jimlaad43(talk) 23:21, December 24, 2016 (UTC)
Jim that's fine, if you're happy to do it I'm sure there will be people picking through it quite quickly.
Voy, I think that the celebrity robots should be considered part of the same team. They are still being custom made by that team who are team members. Obviously we will have a clearer picture when we see the process and how involved everyone is. Toon Ganondorf (t c) 23:48, December 24, 2016 (UTC)
For tonight's episode, I plan to cover the Robot History of Robbie Savage and Jason's robot, just to let other people covering Robot History know. Nweston8 (talk) 11:45, December 29, 2016 (UTC)
If nobody else has already taken it or says otherwise, then I will start work on Kadeena Machina's Robot History tonight. Nweston8 (talk) 14:10, December 30, 2016 (UTC)
Feel free to do as many as you like. Jimlaad43(talk) 16:12, December 30, 2016 (UTC)
That's fine. As I said in my edit summary, my keyboard was water damaged last night so I was completely out of action, but it's dry and functional now. I'll probably work on Dee and screenshots tonight but I still won't be able to start for a few hours. ToastUltimatum 19:18, December 30, 2016 (UTC)

BBC Make It Digital reveals three robots Edit

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/2MdSKK3QPyhQ24hrf6KBYR0/team-micro-bit-chat-to-the-battle-of-the-stars-celebs BBC Make It Digital has published an article with the names and pictures of Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock, Chris Stark and Scott Mills and The Brownlee brothers robots. It also includes interviews with the celebs which would be good for quotes for the robot pages. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/17P6fgdZrQkSY5TkhLyVPvC/create-tinker-and-compete-with-robot-wars-and-the-bbc-micro-bit The main pages for the Make It Digital campaign, includes a video of Kilallot cutting a Hex micro:bot in half.--Voyanuitoa (talk) 07:13, December 25, 2016 (UTC)

Well, in that case, we know that the robot that looks like half of Rotator is Suzi Perry's. CrashBash (talk) 08:20, December 25, 2016 (UTC)

Other Robots Edit

I am so excited about Battle of the stars on tonight but a point crossed my mind that since it was filmed at the same time as the main series we may see quite a lot of robots in the pits that are competing in the new series. Does that count as official confirmation or should we wait for them to be confirmed on the site? 321Annihilate (talk) 14:36, December 27, 2016 (UTC)

Tomorrow. And probably best we don't because for all we know, they could be reserves or robots that were meant to take part but couldn't. CrashBash (talk) 14:56, December 27, 2016 (UTC)
Yes, robots being in the pits are not considered to be confirmed. If robots belonging to the mentors such as Sabretooth, Thor, Terrorhurtz etc make a direct appearance in the shows (main focus of the shot, or the celebrities/roboteers are talking about it directly), then that can go in a short 2017 Series section on their articles, but it does not count as confirmation that they will be in the main series. ToastUltimatum 17:51, December 27, 2016 (UTC)
Now what happens if the roboteers or even the presenters explicitly confirm that they'll be in next year, i.e. "this robot is for next year's series" or something like that? Does that count.Diotoir the son of nemesis (talk) 21:37, December 27, 2016 (UTC)
It's best to do nothing unless it includes the entire entry list. Remember that it's still part of the BBC's NDA that nobody confirms anything. Jimlaad43(talk) 22:29, December 27, 2016 (UTC)

I would say they are their own category, as the robots were custom-built according to the celebrities' designs, even if they were still made by Robo Challenge. ToastUltimatum 01:51, December 31, 2016 (UTC)

Clips of Sir Killalot in the intro/preview Edit

After re-watching Episode 2 of Battle of the Stars recently, it has occurred to me that the clips of Sir Killalot in the intro/preview show him holding what appears to be Soldier Ant over the Flame Pit. Could they have been unused clips from Soldier Ant's Head-to-Head with Kadeena Machina? The damage to Soldier Ant's left-hand wheel suggests this could be the case, but can anyone else confirm this?
