According to Tectonic they did. 84.92.140.217 16:53, October 27, 2009 (UTC)
Do you have a link directly to the page where you read it? You must understand, it's hard to believe on its own.

How about a primary? Me. Yes, we qualified for 4. Took Hard Cheese AND viper01. During testing the day before auditions, Viper blew all it's FETs, so we took it, and Hard Cheese. Hard Cheese ended up running in Vipers place in the qualifiers. First match it took the bot it faced (name escapes me after almost 12 years, but it was the same team that had the Derek-caused accident the previous year that had filming shut down for 2 days while Derek and Matt were read the riot act about competency in handling. Then it was due to fight Ming3, who had blown their pneumatics. However, with being on-deck for 5 hours, Ming Team had time to go out, buy new parts, and install a new penumatic system. After 2 mins of clashes, I finally made a mistake driving, and Ming flipped up on our back. Since we were at 36Kg to Ming's 80, we weren't doing too bad (we'd already taken on and beaten heavyweights a number of times, so it wasn't unusual to fight above our weight class. Andrew "K`Tetch" Norton, Hard Cheese driver (and BattleBots crewbot). 184.36.197.215 03:15, May 31, 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the info. If there's anything else we're missing from the pages, please let us know. Cheers. RA2; aka Resetti's Replicas. (My Talk) 03:35, May 31, 2012 (UTC)

Impending Rename[]

While I was preparing the V Range for my blog, I came to notice that our article name for V.I.P.E.R. 01 is a little misguided. We've had this spelling on the wiki since 2009, and having found an old conversation between TG and Christophee, this looks to have been done to create consistency with other acronyms like S.M.I.D.S.Y. and G.B.H. are.

I noticed today that the surface of the robot and its stats board never used full stops (whereas something like SMIDSY does use full stops in all places), so clearly this was an error on our part and I'll be renaming the page soon to tidy it up a bit. I think we can all see V.I.P.E.R. 01 is a bit longwinded and I can find no trace of the team using it themselves.

Looking at the team's archived website, the name was originally just Viper, but it evolved over time to gain the 01. Since this happened, the show used VIPER 01 on the stats board, while builder KTetch used a mixture of VIPER01, Viper01 and viper01 in various places.

I suspect the most accurate of the bunch is VIPER01, as that's what's written on the side of the robot and KTetch has used it too, while the others were likely just convenience in text speak. I've reached out to KTetch to confirm the robot's official name, but if I don't hear back then VIPER01 will be the one to switch to. Let's see what he says! TOAST 12:15, 22 October 2020 (UTC)

It was referred to as "VIPER 01" with the space in the Magazine and on the statboard. A space between the word and numbers is vastly superior and would be much better to look at than without. We have enough usage with the space to not ignore it. Jimlaad43(talk) 14:15, 22 October 2020 (UTC)
Personal preferences aside though, none of the names KTetch used had the space. I'll try and get a response out of him but I still think it's important to prioritise roboteer preference. I think VIPER01 and VIPER 01 are similarly good anyway. TOAST 21:59, 22 October 2020 (UTC)
