Horizontal vs. Vertical advantage?[]

I've been doing some pondering, and the more I think about, the more skeptical I become of the notion that Horizontal beats Vertical as sure as paper covers stone. When you watched S3 vs Shredder for the first time, did you actually believe that Shredder would have an advantage simply because of its disc orientation? I know I didn't.

I think the explanation is simpler - the disc with more Newtons (Mass times acceleration*) has the advantage. Vertical spinners are hard to balance, so on average, they have to be lighter and spin slower than their horizontal counterparts.

Because of this, I believe that the spinners have no more dis/advantage over their opposite than they do over any random object, and therefore it's not a true weakness. Hopefully this will precipitate into the Arena forum too. Does anyone have a rebuttal?

*In this case acceleration is the same as spin speed. This is because, it's the difference between the hitter and the target's velocity. The target's speed is zero unless they were spinning in the same circular motion as the disc that hit them.

Suggestions[]

Needs altering to reflect single toothed flywheels/discs exist. On the last point, as with horizontals, the control loss is always an issue not just at full power. They also hit harder for the same amount of stored KE as a horizontal as the robot delivering the hit is braced by the floor as opposed to a horizontal which is unbraced. They target the bottom edges and sides of robots. TeamShakey (talk) 15:12, February 26, 2017 (UTC)

A swap of main images?[]

Once again we're at this point, but looking at it, I think the Aftershock image shows more power (although in this case that's more up to debate) than the S3 picture as S3's only shredding thin armour while Aftershock is ripping off a HARDOX wedge.

Also on a more personal note, the 2 reboot pictures in a row on Advantages does kinda hurt to look at in my eyes.

I don't mind either way tbh, it's just something we can discuss. CaliforniaKingsnake (talk) 09:43, March 15, 2017 (UTC)

The photo of Aftershock is a bit blurry. Let's wait until Series 9 is over and we've got all the Aftershock action shots to pick between. With Behemoth, we know we aren't going to get anything better than we've already got so I went ahead and did it. Toon Ganondorf (t c) 09:47, March 15, 2017 (UTC)
Ah okay. Like I said, I don't really mind either way tbh; was more of a suggestion than anything else. CaliforniaKingsnake (talk) 09:49, March 15, 2017 (UTC)
I do agree, just want to wait, Toon Ganondorf (t c) 09:51, March 15, 2017 (UTC)
