Tartarus was a robot that resembled a dragon, or as Jonathan Pearce put it "part bird, part dragon, part frog but most of all robot", that competed in the second Dutch series and the seventh UK series. It was very similar in design to Cerberus.
Martin Scholten, the builder of Tartarus, was unable to attend filming of Series 7 so Bryan Cutler, the captain of Reaper NP2, and Michael Hanser, the captain of Sniper who lost in the qualifiers, entered the robot in his place. The team jokingly claimed that Scholten was a top secret agent who was currently on a secret mission. Tartarus had a hydraulic claw as its weapon, but no self-righting mechanism and unimpressive speed. The head could be "bowed" down to increase the attack range of the weapon, but this feature was never seen in battle.
Tartarus had previously entered Series 2 of Dutch Robot Wars. This version of Tartarus featured a crusher in place of the hydraulic cutter, a small flipper at the rear, and an arm with a small set of pincers. This version did not have any success either, breaking down just seconds into its first battle.
Dutch Series 2
Tartarus participated in Heat B of the second Dutch Robot Wars, and in the first round, it was placed up against Trazmaniac. In the battle, Tartarus kept its sides pointed at Trazmaniac in order to deflect its foe's spinning drum. However, Trazmaniac soon got around to its front and charged at it, immobilizing Tartarus upon impact. Tartarus was subsequently counted out by the Refbot, and then dumped into the pit of oblivion by Shunt, eliminating it from the competition.
UK Series 7
Tartarus participated in Heat L of the Seventh Wars, in the UK wars. In its first round battle, it was drawn up against UFO, Crushtacean and the number 10 seeds Behemoth. Less than five seconds of the battle had elapsed when Behemoth charged into Tartarus and flipped it, up and over, into Shunt's CPZ. Tartarus did not have a srimech, so it was pinned onto the arena side wall by Shunt. Eventually, the Refbot came in and counted Tartarus out, just as Crushtacean was flipped out of the arena by Behemoth. After being counted out, Dead Metal came in and attacked it, causing more damage to the shell of Tartarus. Cease was soon called, and Tartarus was eliminated from the competition.
