Robot Wars Wiki

Taurus was a robot from a family team that attempted to qualify for Series 3 of Robot Wars.

Design[]

"Told that robot looked a bit boring try to liven it up a bit perhaps a few sacrificial bits to be snipped off by the house robots."
— The Team on what the Producers told them

Not much is known about the robot other than it was described as "boring looking" by the producers and may have had sacrificial parts added to be sacrificed to the House Robots. The robots internals were quickly thrown together and used "new parts", which contributed to its poor control and display.

Etymology[]

Taurus is the second astrological sign in the present zodiac[1].

Qualification[]

The team were successful in building the robot in time, albeit rushed, for auditions for the Third Wars. On 31 May 1999, the robot attended the auditions where it displayed poor control and was criticised by some producers for being "boring looking", however by June of that year the team were informed that they "passed" the auditions and would be informed over the coming months with filming estimated for late August-Early September. By July, the team were informed to send pictures of their robots, upon doing so, they were then informed that filming dates had been moved. By September 1999, the team finally were informed that they did not get selected to their dismay[2]

"I am quite sure that this saga is familiar to many prospective entrants and at the risk of ranting I feel that the blame for our failure must be placed, at least partly, with MBC and their complete underestimation of the response. (Or dare I say cynical exploitation of our enthusiasm.) This is, after all, cheap TV. We finance and provide the props, we provide the entertainment destroying those props and MBC/TV21- BBC get the rewards. Yes, producing a TV show is an expensive business and the one or two thousand pounds we spend is small potatoes in the grand scheme but we never asked or expected to be included by right. All we want is to know what was wrong with ours so that it can be made to be acceptable in future and to have a little more information as we go along so that we can plan our lives accordingly. (Some of us do have lives outside Robotwars!)"
