TeamBoltz were a US team who competed in both seasons of Robot Wars: Extreme Warriors with a total of four heavyweight robots - their own creations Mad Cow and Psycho Chicken, alongside loanerbot entry Rot Box, later Bang.

The Team[]

TeamBoltz were based across Florida and California, with the Florida side of the team being credited as hailing from Pembroke Pines. The team was largely a two-piece unit of Jason Barger and Brent Hunter, who co-built their robots together and would dress as farmers on the TV show, complete with straw hats, overalls, and matching accents to suit the farmyard theme of their robots. The team would introduce each other as "Farmer Jason", "Farmer Brent" and "our Happy farmer" in Season 2.

Whilst Mad Cow and Psycho Chicken gave TeamBoltz ample opportunity to make farmyard animal jokes on-screen, competing with their loanerbot would instead shift their approach to competing with a "rusty box they found on the farm" (Rot Box) and their "block of dynamite" (Bang) with similar origins.

None of the team's robots brought them any great degree of success, with only Psycho Chicken picking up a combat win to accompany the four losses of Mad Cow, Psycho Chicken, Rot Box and Bang. The team were, however, strong characters on the show, well received by presenters such as Mick Foley and Carol Grow.

"Usually we see you out here with Psycho Chicken, but you proved today, without a shadow of a doubt, that you can lose with any robot!"

Jason Barger[]

As the team captain and driver of the robots, Jason Barger was the only team member to be seen on-screen in all four of the team's Robot Wars competitions. As the captain, Jason Barger was likely to have been the Florida half of TeamBoltz. He would lead most of the team's on-screen interviews, though shared much of the media attention with co-builder Brent Hunter.

Brent Hunter[]

Brent Hunter, likely the California half of TeamBoltz, was part of the team for both Season 1 and 2 of Extreme Warriors, only failing to appear on-screen during the Tag Team Terror of Season 2 where TeamBoltz were competing with Bang, despite Brent Hunter being present at the time. Co-builder Brent Hunter shared much of the spoken dialogue with Jason Barger and served as somewhat of a co-captain.

Chris[]

A third team member, Chris, was present for Mad Cow's appearance in Season 1. He was uncredited on the show as a statistics board was never displayed for Mad Cow, but he is mentioned on the TeamBoltz website and can be seen throughout Mad Cow's singular appearance, although Chris was not seen when TeamBoltz competed with Rot Box. His direct involvement with the robots remains unknown and he was not present at filming for US Season 2.

Happy Pham[]

For US Season 2, Happy Pham filled the role of third teammate on Psycho Chicken, also being the second and only on-screen teammate to Jason Barger while competing with Bang. Happy Pham was the driver of Scramble, Psycho Chicken's minibot. Outside of this, Happy Pham also presented a video for the TeamBoltz website, interviewing many of the teams in attendance at US Season 2 to ask them about their time at Robot Wars and their thoughts on Psycho Chicken.

It is unclear if the name Happy Pham was purely a stage name, though no other name was ever given on Robot Wars or the TeamBoltz website.

Before being built as Mad Cow for Extreme Warriors, the robot was originally built as a heavyweight named Boltz, operating simply as a wedge without the cutting weaponry. It also evolved to become Boltz 1.5 before Mad Cow was completed[1]. Boltz lacked the decorations of Mad Cow but was otherwise the same machine.

After Season 2 of Extreme Warriors, the team built a new machine affectionately named "Torch", intended to be the basis for Son of Psycho Chicken.

Trivia[]

  • Team Boltz were the only team to compete with one loanerbot in multiple series, and give it a different identity in both occasions.
    • They were also one of only two teams in total to compete in two series with the same loanerbot, alongside Team Juggerbot who entered Tut Tut into the Nickelodeon series.
  • After Mad Cow competed in Season 1, a different team would later compete with Mad Cow Bot in Season 2 - however, this robot was in no way related to TeamBoltz.
