Robot Wars Wiki

Team EyeEye is a team that consisted of the Inglis family. They made several robots over the years, yet only three participated in Robot Wars, Jim Struts, Miss Struts and Arnold, Arnold Terminegger. Jim Struts and Miss Struts were both Walkerbots, which each won their solitary battles in the Reserve Rumble and Walker Battles respectively.

"Jim Struts took between 350 hours and 500 hours over a three month period. Once we had decided to build him we were working every hour possible, mainly doing mechanics and electronics on the weekends and software during the week in the evenings. For Miss Struts we started in February and finished her first evolution for the auditions at the end of May this represented about 400 hours of work. Since then we have being making minor changes which probably represents 200 hours of work."
— Ian Inglis on building his first two robots

Arnold, Arnold Terminegger was not very successful in the main series, only reaching Round 2 in Series 4, and failing to qualify for The Fifth Wars, but its best performance came in Extreme 1, where it defeated Wild Thing and Fluffy to qualify for the Annihilator, in which it reached the final against opposition comprised entirely of Series 4 Semi-Finalists.

The Team

"I came home from work one Friday evening to be bombarded with questions from our children saying "Daddy we saw a program of fighting robots, can we make one?". I watched the repeat on Sunday and I thought it looked a lot of fun. For the next couple of weeks I mulled over the idea of building a robot for the program, and then decided “let’s go for it!”. It appealed to me as I have, since a child, wanted to build a robot, and the competition gave me the reason for doing so. It also brought together, rather nicely, a lot of my interests into one project, electronics, radio frequency equipment, machines, computers, and programming... paradise."
— Ian Inglis on entering Robot Wars[1]

The team was captained by the builder of their robots, Ian Inglis. He was joined by his children and family members throughout Team EyeEye's various appearances. The team always had a unique sense of dress, with each team member wearing a tie, and sometimes sunglasses, as a reference to The Terminator.

Ian Inglis joined Team KaterKiller for the Nickelodeon series, as they entered Kat 3 in the Tag Team Terror competition.

The team also stated their intention to build a walker named Master Struts after their Series 4 defeat, but it is unknown if this project was completed.

Outside Robot Wars

Along with robots for Robot Wars, they made four other robots, three of them appearing on the spin-off show Techno Games on which robots competed in mini Olympic-style events. These Robots were:

  • Rita Rocks - Competed in the Techno Games Battery Sprint in 2001, losing to Millennium Bug
  • Tina Treks (actually a modified Miss Struts) - Competed in the Techno Games Internal Combustion Sprint in 2000, Miss Struts entering the same competition under her normal guise the following year
  • Jimmy Struts (Not to be confused with Jim Struts) - Competed in the 2002 Lightweight Sprint, where it won its heat

They also entered Arnold A. Terminegger into the Football and Assault Course competition under the name of A.A.T..

The team also entered Miss Calvin-Can on Mechanoids.

Trivia

  • Team EyeEye are the only team to have competed with more than one robot that never had a combat loss - both Jim Struts and Miss Struts remain undefeated.
