- "Our middle name is damage!"
- — Nigel Paget in Extreme 1
Team Knightmare was a team that fought across three series of Robot Wars and both series of Robot Wars Extreme. They made their debut in Series 4, reaching the Heat Final, a stage they also reached in Series 6. Their third campaign in Series 7 saw them reach the Semi-Finals for the first and only time in their best performance.
In between their main series appearances, the team were well-known for competing in Annihilator battles.
The Team[]

Team Knightmare in Series 4
Team Knightmare consisted of a static three member roster from Leicestershire, which included Nigel Paget and the Summers family of Malcolm and Lee. The robots entered by the team all featured a consistent design of being invertible with a pneumatic flipper and featuring a medieval theme. The Knightmare series of robots were designed by taking inspiration from other robots that the team had seen in previous series, but consisted of components restricted in line with what they had in their possession or what they were able to find.[1] They also often reused several parts for each of the successor robots including the electronics and the main bodyshells.[1]

The team in Series 6
The team, sporting a knight's head as their official mascot and logo, featured in every series of the classic era following their debut in The Fourth Wars, with the exception of Series 5, which they failed to qualify for. They retired after Robot Wars ended its original run[1] and did not enter any of the rebooted series due to lack of interest and dissatisfaction with the new format.[1]
Team Members[]
Nigel Paget[]

Nigel Paget in Extreme 1
The captain of Team Knightmare, Nigel Paget operated the weapons for all of the team's robots and was the lead speaker for the interviews.
Malcolm Summers[]

Malcolm Summers in Series 4
Malcolm Summers was the neighbour of Nigel Paget and worked as an electrician.[2] Malcolm was the only member of the team to not control the robots or the weapons at any point. However, he was still a prominent speaker in interviews, particularly in Series 7 where he addressed tactical plans before each battle, and delivered a monologue before the Annihilator in Extreme.
Lee Summers[]

Lee Summers in Series 7
The final member of the team, Lee Summers was the son of Malcolm and the driver of all the Knightmare robots. In Series 4, Lee was a 14-year old student who had a hobby in judo, and by the time of Series 7, he was a 17-year old apprentice engineer.
He spoke the least out of the members, but did still have occasional speaking roles.

Outside Robot Wars[]
Following their retirement from robot combat, Team Knightmare sold Raging Knightmare to fellow Leicestershire-based team, Team MAD, who Team Knightmare were good friends with. After claiming ownership of the robot, Team MAD reverted Raging Knightmare back to the old Knightmare name and revised the robot internally as well as fitting a new flipper with a much wider blade at the base. This version of Knightmare fought in several FRA competitions across the country, such as the Roaming Robots Robots Live! circuit. Since then, Knightmare has been sold to Adrian Sandercock in 2011 and then to Ceri R Jenkins in 2013, who still owns it to this day, having renamed it Raging MORG.
Trivia[]
- Team Knightmare holds the record of entering the most Annihilators (the last three Annihilators), placing second in Extreme's second Annihilator with Spirit of Knightmare, fifth in the Extreme 2 Annihilator with Raging Reality, and third in The Seventh Wars Annihilator with Raging Knightmare.
- As Raging Reality managed to flip Brutus Maximus and Tetanus 2 out of the arena in Series 6, and Raging Knightmare flipped out Spawn Again in Series 7, Team Knightmare were the only team in Robot Wars history to enter two robots that flipped others out of the arena.
- Team Knightmare is one of three competitors (along with X-Terminator and Atomic) to lose to the reigning champion in the Heat Final of one series and go on to reach the semi-finals in a subsequent series.
- The battles between Spawn of Scutter and Knightmare and Spawn Again and Raging Knightmare respectively meant that Teams Scutterbots/Knightmare became the second of three rivalries (after Team 101/King Buxton and followed by Pulsar/Ironside3) where both teams won a Heat by defeating the other.
- Team Knightmare is one of two teams to successfully defeat a machine entered by Team Typhoon by knockout, achieving this in the Extreme 2 Annihilator with Raging Reality after flipping over and immobilising Typhoon 2. The other team to achieve this statistic is Team Dantomkia, who did so with DTK in the Series 7 Featherweight Championship after flipping over and immobilising Typhoon Cadet.
