TechStorm is a Singapore-based pay-TV channel distributed throughout southeast Asia. Established in March 2019, it is currently available in Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Cambodia, Myanmar and Taiwan[1]. TechStorm is described as "Asia’s largest and fastest growing 24/7 media distribution platform that celebrates the region’s rising stars in Esports, gaming and tech innovations."[2] While it has broadcast a range of programmes focusing on Esports and technology-focused content since its inception, it also shows programming such as Shark Tank, The Gadget Show and international Esports tournaments.
Robot Wars[]
TechStorm purchased the rights to broadcast the three rebooted series of Robot Wars in 2019 and began broadcasting Series 8 on 7 October at 10.00pm SGT for weekly Monday night episodes[3], but the deal was not announced by Passion Distribution until December 2019[4].
The trailer for Series 9 was published on 13 November 2019, continuing the broadcast in the Monday 10.00pm SGT timeslot[5], while the two Battle of the Stars episodes premiered on the channel on Christmas Day 2019 at 10.00pm SGT[6]. A trailer was published in April 2020 advertising a release of Series 10 on Fridays at 9.55pm SGT[7].
TechStorm continued to show each series throughout 2020, with a full run of the three series shown in the evenings from Monday to Thursday at 8.55pm SGT from 26 August until 1 October[8]. While it is not known how long the series remained on TechStorm, an archived schedule shows that Series 10 was broadcast in late afternoon slots in early February and August 2021[9][10], as well as Saturday evening showings in September 2021[11].
All of the trailers showed original presenters Dara Ó Briain and Angela Scanlon as well as featuring the voice of Jonathan Pearce, suggesting that the original audio was retained, but the original Series 8 trailer and the August 2020 trailer featured a new voiceover specifically for the channel.
