Tecumseh was a walking robot built by Team Power which attended qualification for Robot Wars: The Fourth Wars. A weaponised conversion of their Techno Games machine, it was withdrawn from the qualifiers after it was found to be prohibitively slow by the team themselves.[1][2]

Team Power had also intended to enter Series 4 with Blur; however, it too would not qualify.

Tecumseh was a petrol-powered, six-legged walkerbot, using a 13hp engine with electric start as propulsion. The legs themselves were made out of assorted scaffolding pipes, though the majority of the robot's internals were left exposed through its large framework.[3]

A 5hp engine, as originally utilised at Techno Games, was intended to power Tecumseh's main weapons - twin circular saws rotating at a fixed 3,000rpm. The saws were machined from the wheelhubs of Team Power's Series 1 entry Barry, mounted together on the end of a 4-inch arm. Originally, linear actuators were to be used to raise, lower and move the arm sideways. However, these were removed mid-build due to weight constraints. The design of Tecumseh had the saws positioned at the front and the main petrol engine at the rear for balancing. A Lexan top cover was also intended to be fixed above the saw arm, though it is not present in photos of the machine in the Robot Wars Pit area.[1]

According to the Team Power website, a second weapon was proposed for Tecumseh, in the form of a set of crushing jaws similar to those of Sergeant Bash and Sir Killalot. The weapon system would have utilised both hydraulics for the jaws themselves - using a power pack left over from Gnasher - and linear actuators for the arm housing them. A force of 10 tons was quoted for the cylinder included as part of the power pack. It is unknown whether the jaws were finished in time for Tecumseh's attempted qualification, or whether they were planned to be interchangeable with the circular saws.[1]

Qualification[]

Following its Robot Wars conversion, Tecumseh was initially planned to compete in a presumed 'fighting walkers event',[4] but ultimately attended Fourth Wars filming in conjunction with the Robot Mayhem live event. Details on its qualification attempt are limited; however, Team Power soon found that the added weight of its circular saw weaponry made it too slow to be competitive. It is unclear whether this was discovered during rehearsals for Robot Mayhem - taking place on 22 July[5] - or the actual event itself. However, Team Power elected to not enter Tecumseh into The Fourth Wars on this basis, thus preventing it from having the chance to qualify.[1]

Prior to its attempted Robot Wars entry, a weaponless incarnation of Tecumseh first debuted in the sister show Techno Games, competing in the Internal Combustion Sprint event. Here, it achieved considerable success, taking the gold medal in 2000 and silver in 2001, losing to Team Nemesis' Ulysses in the latter. The initial build featured the 5hp engine for propulsion and rubber dog ball sections as 'feet'.[3]
