Not to be confused with the Welsh Series 5 robot that failed to qualify.
The Hornet was a lightweight competitor robot which was intended to enter Series 4 of Robot Wars. Although it reached the the point where it was able to be driven at the team captain's school, it is unknown whether the robot was completed in time. Regardless, it did not appear in Series 4.
Design[]
The Hornet's design started off as a frame for a featherweight design. However, the team noticed that the frame would be much to heavy so it was repurposed for lightweight build. The whole design would be themed around a hornet and would feature a 40mm bore, 300mm long pneumatic spike at the back of the robot.[1] The robot would be armored with 3mm aluminum and reinforced with 6mm lexan at the front. The weapon would be powered by a soda stream bottle which was sourced with help of Team Make Robotics, and would be able to supply enough air for 3 to 4 firings.[2]
The build of The Hornet extended past the filming date for Series 4, thus it never competed in this series. The team also planned appearing at Wilson's Day at Wilson's School in Sutton, although it is unknown if it was finished for this event.[3] With there being no information on a lightweight competition at Series 4, it is unknown what the team's plan to compete on the show was.
The team previously was attendance with Tyrant at Series 3, and the team began plans to construct a heavyweight named Poseidon for Series 5, however any details of this robot are unknown and it never competed on the show.[4]
