The IceMan (possibly shortened to IceMan) was a heavyweight robot intending to apply for Robot Wars during the show's original run. It is unknown for certain which series the robot was designed for, however the target weight of 77kg suggests it was built for Series 4 or earlier. Regardless, it did not appear in the show.
Design[]
The Iceman had many interesting features planned for its construction.[2] It was to have layered armour in hopes of providing positives from different armour selections. The outside armour was created of a combination of ion nitride titanium and Kevlar. The inside layer would be formed from a carbon fiber sheet bonded to a steel frame.
The armour would also double up as a ramming weapon with steel bumpers as ramming weapons. There was also the possibility of adding a "back-hoe" or blade.
The gaps in between the armour were also to be used as a ventilation system to help cool the 12HP two-stroke petrol engine which was to power the robot's drive. The drive would be constructed out of cast aluminum tracks with rubber feet and spikes to maximize traction. The ends of the tracks were to be raised in order to improve its turning and would allow it to climb over obstacles. The track system would be tensioned by two PTFE plates. The drive system would be created in two subassemblies which could be articulated to change its ground clearance.
On top of all the design features, the team were planning on having the robot be able to float, "should the producers see fit to introduce water hazards."
