The Wife was a New York-based heavyweight robot which intended to enter Season 1 of Robot Wars: Extreme Warriors. However, despite arriving at the studio in the United Kingdom, the team were unable to meet the safety requirements necessary for The Wife to compete, and thus the team fought using a loanerbot, Tiger Cat.

DesignEdit

The Wife used a unique invertible design with two exposed wheels on the end of extended axles. It used large rotating scissor-like claws as its main weapon, and the robot used both pneumatic and hydraulic systems. The robot was one of the largest in Extreme Warriors, at the cost of being comparatively fragile.

Robot HistoryEdit

Season 1Edit

"Some of the 'bots were really having trouble getting assembled. One in particular, "The Wife", was a horrifically complex assemblage of pneumatics/hydraulics that looked like a dressmaker's dummy that had been assimilated by the Borg. The team worked on this for days, but eventually had to give up when their fail-safes wouldn't work. The poor thing looked more than a bit fragile and would likely not have survived the first combat round even if it had been running."

The Wife had been entered into the first season of Extreme Warriors, but upon arriving at the studio, it became apparent that the robot's radio control systems did not meet legal requirements, leading to difficulties with the robot's failsafe. After days of attempted repairs, The Wife was withdrawn from its intended appearances, and the Dynamic Duo instead entered the US Championship and the Civil War using Tiger Cat, a loanerbot.

Outside Robot WarsEdit

To compete in Season 4.0 of BattleBots, The Wife was rebranded to compete as Bumble Bee, the team's heavyweight entry which was drawn against Incisor in the first-round. However, much like The Wife in Extreme Warriors, Bumble Bee was also forced to withdraw from the competition due to technical difficulties, and lost its battle by default.

The Dynamic Duo also entered three robots into Season 4.0 of BattleBots; Yellow Jacket (lightweight), Killer Wasp (middleweight), and Queen Bee (super heavyweight). Again like Bumble Bee, all of these robots forfeited their first matches in this season, either due to various technical issues, or in the case of Yellow Jacket, not being fully assembled. The team returned for Season 5.0 with the lightweight Overwhelming Force-59, but as with their previous robots, it was forced to forfeit its first battle against LocoMotion due to technical issues.

TriviaEdit

  • Even when competing with Tiger Cat on the show, the Dynamic Duo still wore T-shirts bearing the name of The Wife.
