Robot Wars Wiki

After reading the Old Robot Wars Forums, I noticed found some information about several series of Robot Wars (namely S5 - E2). The main website is here: https://web.archive.org/web/20021001071536/http://www.robotmayhem.com/forum/messages/board-topics.html (also at the bottom of the page)

Extreme Series 2 Prize Breakdown[]

from https://web.archive.org/web/20021114105915/http://www.robotmayhem.com/forum/messages/49/10339.html?1034182223 This was for winning ANY competition, so Team Firestorm, for example would get money from the All-Stars and Commonwealth Carnage, so it could be possible to work out who earned what, but this is a bit much, I think. The Prize Breakdown was as follows:

Heavyweights[]

  • Winners - £350
  • 2nd - £175
  • Others - £50

Middleweights[]

  • Winners - £200
  • 2nd - £125
  • Others - £40

Lightweights[]

  • Winner is awarded £150.
  • Second place gets £75
  • All other entrants get £35 entrance fee

Featherweights[]

  • Winner is awarded £100.
  • All other entrants get £25 entrance fee

Antweights[]

  • Winner is awarded £75.
  • All other entrants get £15 entrance fee

A note[]

Please note: The Organisers, at their sole discretion, reserve the right to alter or change these specifications at any time should circumstances change.

Recording for Series 6[]

https://web.archive.org/web/20021114155933/http://www.robotmayhem.com/forum/messages/49/8831.html?1023798486

  • Qualifiers took place before the 8th July 2002.
  • The Sixth Wars took place between the 8th and 18th July.
  • There were three shows a day:
    • 10am - 1:30pm
    • 2:30am (I assume this is a mistake) - 6:00pm
    • 6:30pm - Finish

Daytime prices were £2.75 and Evening/Weekends were £5.75

There was also a Robot Wars Exhibition and on display were Replica HR and the RW Museum. The RW Research Team were hoping to have roboteers and robots to talk, but it is unknown whether this occurred. (Also there was catering facilities, but this isn't really noteworthy)

Extreme 2 Filming[]

Dates for Extreme 2 were filming between October 19th to October 23rd. The Storm 2 website seems to have these confused. (Simply the days, the dates seem okay). https://web.archive.org/web/20160108201412/http://www.teamstorm.com/storm2/newbloodheats.htm https://web.archive.org/web/20021114153427/http://www.robotmayhem.com/forum/messages/49/9900.html?1030624362

House Robots[]

https://web.archive.org/web/20021112040410/http://www.robotmayhem.com/forum/messages/1/47.html?1034538629 There were several forums discussing House Robots, but most of them haven't been archived. There were however forums for people thinking of ideas to "kill" Killalot.

Series 5 Seeding[]

https://web.archive.org/web/20021112040948/http://www.robotmayhem.com/forum/messages/4/7808.html?1029188763 People thought series 5 seeding was unfair, and there were ideas about how people thought it was done, but sadly, these weren't archived.

Series 5 Predictions[]

Nothing overly major, but a lot of people thought that Razer or S3 would eventually win, with others predicting Wheely Big Cheese or Pussycat. https://web.archive.org/web/20021112040147/http://www.robotmayhem.com/forum/messages/4/10090.html?1034425396

Gemini[]

Gemini apparently did not have a website. https://web.archive.org/web/20021112061845/http://www.robotmayhem.com/forum/messages/4/10242.html?1034372810 This contradicts the Ultimate Guide, however.

Mr. Psycho[]

These might have been sarcastic or thought up, but apparently, there were ideas to mount a fireball shooting gun on psyco, other wepon ideas(and these were part of an interchangeble wepons sets), included, a mace , the hammer, an axe(same shape head as terrorhurtz), and a multi-barrle paintball gun. on a diffrent note; there were ideas to cover growler in diotor's fur. oohh bless. https://web.archive.org/web/20021112040412/http://www.robotmayhem.com/forum/messages/4/10347.html?1034363361

Robots[]

Some people posted ideas for robots and asked for opinions and advice (namely RC2 Mk 2 & 3) https://web.archive.org/web/20021112040122/http://www.robotmayhem.com/forum/messages/4/10043.html?1034280102

Hypno-Disc[]

The H-D team were quite prominent on the website - and they even posted their website, which contained images and sketches of how H-D was set up across the four main series, http://www.hypno-disc.co.uk/

Dislike[]

There was a forum for people who were complaining about robots, e.g. lack of winners in Wild Card Warriors in Extreme 1. https://web.archive.org/web/20021112035929/http://www.robotmayhem.com/forum/messages/4/7391.html?1034191188

Live Event[]

Somebody brought up an event that they were holding: https://web.archive.org/web/20021112040003/http://www.robotmayhem.com/forum/messages/4/10281.html?1033940954

Selling[]

People were selling robots, or parts/systems of robots. https://web.archive.org/web/20021015004216/http://www.robotmayhem.com/forum/messages/4/4.html?1033434050

Series 6 Seedings[]

Some people had several robots pegged down for the 12th seeds, e.g. SMIDSY. https://web.archive.org/web/20021107033143/http://www.robotmayhem.com/forum/messages/5205/10051.html?1033201633

Razer and S6 Grand Final[]

https://web.archive.org/web/20021107032039/http://www.robotmayhem.com/forum/messages/5205/10106.html?1033809733 Razer will be back, we are currently doing a few mods for Extreme (and don't ask what because you won't get an answer). Great final, good feeling to be part of such a fantastic fight - nearly got them with the ultimate sucker punch too! But well done to the Tornado boys, the decision was the right one but we should have tried to lift you earlier.

Vinny, on behalf of Team Razer

Dates for S6 on BBC 2[]

There are some dates on the S6 transmissions of BBC 2, but some of them may be not be accurate, as there is a bit of sarcasm in the forum. https://web.archive.org/web/20021107032819/http://www.robotmayhem.com/forum/messages/5205/10215.html?1033558729

H-D's S6 Heat[]

Some info on H-D: Well spotted. We actually had a failure of the safety circuits. we have one for the disc / 1 for the SRM / one for the wheels. 2 of the 3 circuits stoped working, luck on our side the wheel safety just hung in there !

Bulldog was a good fight, a VERY hard bot and a re-run (lucky for us) of last series. Bulldog got a good flip, we just managed to stay upright, we swung round to get a good hit in (yes, that did rip out a chunk of 10mm dural!!). Hope we dont get bulldog again, dont think e will be lucky 3 times.

Entanglement Devices[]

https://web.archive.org/web/20021107032530/http://www.robotmayhem.com/forum/messages/5205/10246.html?1034460759 With this quote in particular from Robin Herrick:

yeah, after the match one of the Diotior team said something like "why do think we have it" when I commented on the fur jamming our blade.

New Blood[]

Apparently, “Came back from the filming of Robot Wars Extreme Series 2, and i can tell you, in the new blood, if a robot lost, it was smashed and trashed by everything in the arena! They had to re-load the drop zone about 7 times in one day. Great fun tho, and at least most of the losers came out happy. “ https://web.archive.org/web/20021107032846/http://www.robotmayhem.com/forum/messages/5205/10277.html?1034101285 This fits in with "if you lost in this your machine was going to be thoroughly trashed by the House Robots, there was even a briefing given before the competition explaining what was in store." https://web.archive.org/web/20160108201412/http://www.teamstorm.com/storm2/newbloodheats.htm from the Storm website. 7 times in one day for the drop zone, which fits in with the amount of times it was used, but means that Heat A R1 & 2, same for B, Heat C R1 & Final and Heat D R2 would have all been filmed on the same day.

Foreign Robot Wars[]

There were some ideas about Robot Wars in the other territories - US, German & Dutch. However there were some about Italy, Sweden and Australia.

There is some stuff on Robot Wars in Sweden: https://web.archive.org/web/20021015004137/http://www.robotmayhem.com/forum/messages/10/10.html?1033450479

There was supposed to be a Swedish Robot Wars: https://web.archive.org/web/20021112040714/http://www.robotmayhem.com/forum/messages/10/5986.html?1023254401 There was no series.

There is info on the Dutch Robot Wars: https://web.archive.org/web/20021014235900/http://www.robotmayhem.com/forum/messages/8/8.html?1031604993

There is info on the German Robot Wars: https://web.archive.org/web/20021015001437/http://www.robotmayhem.com/forum/messages/9/9.html?1032297150

There is info on the US Robot Wars: https://web.archive.org/web/20021015000842/http://www.robotmayhem.com/forum/messages/7/7.html?1033246053

There is info about RW in Italy: https://web.archive.org/web/20021014225213/http://www.robotmayhem.com/forum/messages/11/11.html?1029700568

There is some info about RW in Australia: https://web.archive.org/web/20021015003154/http://www.robotmayhem.com/forum/messages/3631/3631.html?1033455035

There is some info about Robot Combat Shows in general (e.g. Robotica): https://web.archive.org/web/20021015002505/http://www.robotmayhem.com/forum/messages/22/22.html?1033419927

Building[]

There was some help on building robots under "tip swap". https://web.archive.org/web/20021015002815/http://www.robotmayhem.com/forum/messages/33/33.html?

Fiction[]

There is also some fiction like we do on the arena, e.g. tournaments. https://web.archive.org/web/20021015000036/http://www.robotmayhem.com/forum/messages/9816/9816.html?1033436538

Technogames[]

There was also a temporary area for Technogames, but it is not archived, so we can't do much about it.

George Francis New Machine[]

Apparently, George Francis built a new machine for Battlebots. https://web.archive.org/web/20021114104829/http://www.robotmayhem.com/forum/messages/4/8805.html?1024667290 This was prior to S6 and E2 filming, meaning Chaos 2 was still in operating condition.

I think that's everything. I read through most of the discussions, but wasn't much in terms of unknown stuff. Particularly under Competitors, but there was quite a lot of information, so it was quite hard to read through everything.
