Robot Wars Wiki

The array of weapons of Robot Wars was spectacular as well as the mass of designs. Many robots successful with them others not so much. But what if some robots had alternate weapons that matched there design for example wedges being fitted with either a front hinged or rear-hinged flipper. I will be taking a look at the robot that could have had alternate weapons on them and whether they may have been more successful or not. Suggestions are allowed.

Roadblock (Front Hinged Flipper)[]

Roadblock

First up the Series 1 Champions, whose saw will be replaced by a front hinged flipper. With this new weaponry Roadblock still would've have won the First Wars. The only think that may have changed is that the Killertron fight may have been shorter other than that the first wars would have seen no change.

The second series would have also been similar but the fight with Cassius is where things get interesting. Both robots have the same weapons, and both have low ground clearance, however the amount of CO2 equipped to Roadblock would be its downfall as Roadblock may have run out of CO2 and Cassius would conclude the fight very much like they did before. So, Roadblock would have finished the Second Wars in third again.

Finally, the third wars now had Roadblock entered this series instead of its successor, Beast of Bodmin, would there be an improvement or would Roadblock be outdated by this time. The fight against Crusher would have been as they would have been overturned and knocked out. The other two fights in the heat would have been similar as well.

The series semis may have been different Blade would have been knocked out within seconds and the Steg–o-saw-us fight may have gone all the way, but Roadblock would have lost and not got any further as Beast of Bodmin.

In all Roadblock wouldn’t have been no better or no worse but the fights may have been more entertaining and we would've seen a third series from the first champion of UK Robot Wars.

Carbide (Drum Spinner 720 Style) suggested by VulcansHowl[]

Carbide
722

Carbide with a drum

Another Robot Wars champion is up next this time switching the bar spinner for a drum spinner and Carbide becoming a heavyweight 720/722. In Series 8 Carbide would ease through its group battle causing as much damage has it did in real life. In the round robin stage its fight against Terrorhurtz may turn out to be one of the best fights of the reboot. With Terrorhurtz keeping its front wedge pointed at Carbide's drum sparks are guaranteed, this fight is also likely to last the full three minutes with judges giving Carbide the decision and the two points. Next up would be Nuts again another very similar battle to the one in real life to giver Carbide five points on the board. The final round robin fight would be a lot different as Behemoth's scoop is less likely to break apart, meaning either Carbide could cause damage to Behemoth's side armour and lock-up one side of there drive or there could be another three minute slug to the judges. Either way Carbide would top the group with seven or eight points and continue on to the heat final to repeat what they did to Behemoth.

Carbide's first grand final fight was up against Shockwave & Apollo and a major change in that Carbide is again unlikely to break the arena panel or break the rear of Shockwave which caused them to forfeit. So this fight would be longer Dave Moulds' tactics would be to attack Shockwave but I feel that they would have been strong enough to last but Apollo had reliability issues the whole series and Carbide's drum have added to them and maybe, just maybe killed the Series 8 champions there and then. The round robin of course would be another big change Carbide would still get the three points from Thor and TR2 would gain 2 points from the judges against Shockwave. The TR2 and Thor fight would conclude the same but Carbide may just drop a point against Shockwave a fight that would go to the judges leaving Carbide on five points. Shockwave would have claimed its three points against and broken Thor and TR2 would claim another two points against Carbide leaving the table like this:

TR2 7
Carbide 5
Shockwave 3
Thor 0

The grand final the would be between the flipper of TR2 and the drum spinner of Carbide and much like finals before another judges decision which would end up Carbide's favour winning Series 8 and claiming its first Robot Wars title.

In Series 9 Carbide would return with a strong, more powerful drum weapon and destroy through its heat yet again with the likes of Apollo, Coyote and Crackers n Smash being swept aside by the drum spinner. In the grand final against Ironside 3 and Concussion we could possibly be an upset as the drum spinners may gang up on Ironside however the wheels of Concussion were exposed enough for Ironside to hit them and knock them out. The first round robin fight against Aftershock would be interesting with both robots going head on this fight there could be big hits or another Sabretooth v Aftershock fight and I think Carbide will suffer a loss via KO. Next up would be Eruption of course the flipper will be able to get underneath and maybe a fifth OOTA by Eruption this season. With Carbide no longer able to qualify for the final. There final round robin fight would be against Ironside 3 and Carbide may just go all out and KO Ironside 3 to pick up its only 3 points.

Eruption 9
Carbide 3
Aftershock 3
Ironside 3 3

As three robot ended on three points either a battle of a JD would be in order. Knowing what the reboot was like a play-off battle would be fought and the Judges would decide on Carbide due to being Series 8 champions. Meaning Carbide would compete in a second final and Eruption would suffer more damage here and possibly make it last and suffer a title loss to the judges. Giving the title of Series 9 to Carbide.

Carbide would then enter Series 10 as the only one of two robot to win back-to-back and 2 Robot Wars domestic titles. Its first fight would be against Big Nipper and Gabriel 2, with Big Nipper out of the picture largely due to Gabriel 2 killing it there would another three minute battle to the end in which Carbide would progress. Aftershock would rematch with Carbide and possibly suffer a loss to the robot it had previously beaten but again maybe another impressive fight. Following that a Carbide would face a third encounter with Eruption again making its way through to the Grand Final. The next fight would normally see an upset in Nuts 2 beating Carbide. But with the drum spinner has no chain that would break and unlike Concussion, Carbide only can lose chunks of tyres which it will still run on anyway. Meaning Carbide would then take on Nuts 2 again and again making a Grand Final against Eruption for its final encounter. Eruption would get revenge from earlier on in the series and last series final winning the title and stopping Carbide from a record third domestic title.

In conclusion, a few major things would have changed and maybe a few more exciting and some of the best fights in Robot Wars. Carbide may have also won a second title and if a Series 11 had happened maybe Carbide could have at a shot at that record third domestic title.
