Sporcle Quiz - 100 Robots by their First and Last Opponents

Now then folks, for the second time ever I've had a crack at making a Robot Wars themed Sporcle quiz, no doubt best enjoyed by the superfans such as yourselves!

A total of 100 robots, well-known and otherwise, are listed by who they fought in their first and final battles on the show. If either of these battles was a melee with multiple robots in it, I've only picked one to include in the clue, usually the one that makes it harder!

To give one away as a free example, if a robot's first opponent was Terror Turtle and their final opponent was Cathadh, then the answer must be Eruption. Various robots involved Terror Turtle in their debut battle such as Mute and Cygnus X-1, but only one had its final battle be against Cathadh. Eruption also fought…

HD Uploads of Every Series

Perhaps you've already seen my new HD images from Heat A of Series 1 - that's right, we finally have HD uploads of Series 1! Not just the content on the VHS, but *all* of it. And that's just the beginning: the Series 4 Christmas specials are here, the missing HQ heats from Series 2 are here, even the ones we already had are now available in better quality - UK Robot Wars fully exists in HD online as of April 2022.

This completely slipped under the radar when it launched, but a brand new (free) streaming service called Mech+ is the host of Robot Wars in HD. Please check out any episode you like here, be it Series 1, the reboot, or the Northern Annihilator!

Name Rating - The Awards

Hello everyone and welcome to the Grand Finale of the Name Rating blog! I had a few different ideas as to how we would close this mammoth out, from ideas like a bonus round of rating the video games & merchandise competitors, to awkwardly shoehorning the 2016 Pilot competitors and on-site withdrawals like Armakillo and The Wife in (after all, Armakillo was more "televised" than Reckless Endangerment), but I think the only proper way to send this off is what we have below. That's not to say ideas like video game name ratings will never happen, but this is the conclusion to the main project.

The first section of the blog shows a table of the best and worst names in each range. It should provide a snapshot of the three best names and the two w…

Rating Every Robot Wars Competitor Name Ever

In the sport of robot combat, having an identity is key. Whether you're competing on television or otherwise, you want to stand out from the crowd, and of course the main way to do this is to build an interesting robot. But between the days of old where robots were often as simple as a simple box on wheels, to the days where the British live circuit and its excess of wedge-shaped flippers was our primary source of robotic combat, right up to the modern day where we are still faced with a growing concern of vertical spinners overcrowding the field, having a distinct identity has always been critical. The best place to start is to give your robot a name that truly stands out as your own.

Robot names can be good for any variety of reasons. The…

Ragnabot 3 Competitors Ranked

Another Ragnabot blog to throw into the pile! The idea is a simple one here - take all of the robots which made it to Round 2 of their heat in Ragnabot 3, and rate them from my perceived best-to-worst order. This will allow us to see whether (in my opinion) the four best robots ended up making it out of the heat, and how many of the overall Top 8 reached the Heat Final.

Of course, it's entirely possible that one of the best robots in the heat fell in Round 1 (e.g. Stinger, Destructive Criticism), but for brevity, I haven't included these robots in the blog. Nobody really needs to separate the quality of robot when we get down to the 26-32 region, after all.

Robots that fell in the Heat Finals are italicised, and the ones actually made it out …
