Welcome to what I call a “mini blog” as it isn’t as long as any of my other blogs, but like my next three blogs, this is based on Extreme Destruction. This time I’m looking at the things I dislike most about the game. These are the things that grind away at me whilst I'm playing.

Updates will begin tomorrow at some point, alongside two other blogs.

5. How Long It Takes to Complete the Game[]

This is quite ridiculous. I dislike the length of the Competition mode. In my most recent playthrough (which I didn’t finish), I started the game on Good Friday, and I was playing pretty much non-stop on the Saturday, Sunday, Monday and only finished on the Tuesday afternoon. I did want to look at how quick a speed. I had a look on speedrun.com, and only one person had run through it completely, and that was in a time just over 6 hours. As I said at the start, this is more of a minor issue than a major issue which is why it’s the lowest on this list. I also think this is more of a personal factor, rather than something that affects everyone.

4. Robots that Self-Right That Honestly Shouldn’t Be Able To[]

Wheely Big Cheese is one of the first flippers you unlock in the game. It is therefore easy to think that machines that look like they cannot self-right cannot self-right. This thought couldn’t be more wrong. For some reason, a machine that has a tiny flipper bolted on to the front of the machine can self-right, yet in real life it would flick itself up, but not over. One machine I detest for this is Can Opener. Despite landing on its side, with it’s axe broken off, it can still self-right despite the fact it has no possible method to self-right. Another machine that fits this is Joust, where, once again, there are no possible methods of self-righting, it still somehow finds a way. And this really gets on my nerves.

3. Robots that Don’t Let You Self-Right[]

On the contrary, I also heavily dislike robots that smother you once they’ve flipped you. But you’re still classed as immobile, even though you can’t do anything, but simultaneously can. Robots that are mostly susceptible to this are Firestorm, Panic Attack and Thermidor 2, as they all rely on being able to flip yourselves back over, but if another robot is still attacking you, preventing you from going fully over, you’ve got no chance. And with only 11 seconds to self-right, you’re against a very limited clock to get the almost impossible done.

2. The House Robots[]

I think the House Robots are excellent additions in Robot Wars. Nobody asked for them, but there they are, and they are great. In Extreme Destruction though. I get it’s set in Extreme 1, and at this point, Refbot’s card system and counter is brand new. So what better way to show it off than introduce it in the game. Except it really doesn’t work. Instead of one every couple of fights, they come out EVERY fight even if you just go near, not even in the CPZ, and, especially in the Robot Wars Arena, when the pit is opened and Sgt. Bash just charges out, effectively pitting whatever’s in front of him. This occurs in pretty much all arenas, apart from the Mars Base. Refbot is just as bad, as it rushes to an immobile robot or House Robot who’s out of it’s CPZ when it shouldn’t be, and pushes you out of the way, potentially into danger, which is also annoying.

1. JUDGES DECISIONS[]

By far and away, the most annoying thing in Extreme Destruction are the Judges Decisions. Every time I battled, I tried to get a KO. I wanted to avoid a Judges’ Decision as much as I possibly could. This was because no matter what I did, Judges’ Decisions just seemed to go against me about 90% of the time. If I was in the Robot Wars Arena, I would try and pit everyone else, on the Subway, I’d try and push everyone off the rails, on the Rooftops, I’d try and push everyone down the glass roof. On the Aircraft Carrier, I’d try and trick others into driving over the thing that threw them completely off the carrier, or try and push them into the back. I’d push robots into the crusher in the Scrapyard, and into the paint pit and then on to the conveyor or through the railings. On the Military Base, I’d open the missile launcher and let them drive over it, and on the Mars Base I’d open the Airlock. All to avoid a Judges’ Decision, as despite me pushing, flipping, and just being the overall aggressor (which would also get rid of armour on the other robot), I’d still end up losing for reasons I don’t quite understand.

Conclusion[]

So, there we go, the thing I dislike the least in Robot Wars: Extreme Destruction are the Judges’ Decisions.
