Not to be confused with Vector of Armageddon or Victor
- "The key to Vector is the arm - lifts, pokes, spears - doesn't make the tea though, which would be the handy thing."
- — Philippa Forrester
Vector was a Nottingham based robot that only competed in Series 3 of Robot Wars. In its only battle, the robot was completely stationary after suffering a malfunction, and was eliminated in Round 1 despite its opponent T 2 driving into the pit of its own accord halfway through the battle.
Design[]
- "A vicious arm to lift, puncture, grab and also self-right."
- — Jonathan Pearce on Vector's weapon
Vector was a black box-wedge robot, armoured in high carbon steel sheets. The yellow arm at the centre was a yellow hydraulic flipping arm, which could not only lift, but could act as a piercing spike and a srimech too. However, it was not properly seen in action in its only appearance, and the arm proved to be easily damaged, as proven when Shunt axed it.
Qualification[]
Vector successfully applied for the Third Wars by attending the auditions. It would also attempted to qualify for The Fourth Wars by competing at the Robot Mayhem live event on 25 July 2000. There, it is known to have fought a single head-to-head qualifier against Psycho.
- "At 4:30pm we were picked against Vector -...- As they opened the door Psycho whizzed out with the help of Matt due to Psychos none existent ground clearance. 3-2-1 Activate and I was away, forget the battle plans, pile into him at 15mph this was the new strategy! We out pushed him on 2 occasions and the rest of the time we were pushing him around the arena. Towards the beginning for the fight I lined up for a axing everything was perfect, I hit the switch.... nothing, I then hit all the other switches and still nothing Oh F*&£, I thought! The fight ended with us piling into our opponent, and thus immobilising him, a quick victory spin and out. Well not quite. On the call of "cease" we err didn't, something had gone wrong, don't know what but we didn't stop, the robot failed to stop when we turned the transmitter off thus the fail safes were not working, bad! Eventually the House Robots (Shunt) restrained us in their usual House Robot way, which meant axing us and pinning us until Matt Irvin pulled out the key."
- — Team Psychobot on the battle[1]
The match was a long pushing battle where Psycho was able to out-push Vector on multiple moments during the fight. Psycho's axe failed to work throughout the battle and as a result was completely weaponless in the entirety of the fight. Eventually, Psycho's ramming power managed to knock out Vector, giving it a victory. However, despite its victory, Psycho would not stop and as a result Shunt had to pin it against the side wall so that Psycho could be safely deactivated. As a result, neither opponent qualified.
Robot History[]
Series 3[]
In Round 1 of the Third Wars, Vector went up against a returning machine to Robot Wars, T 2.
Before the battle began, Vector began to smoke, and did not move at all at the start until T 2 closed in on it and attacked it. Vector moved backwards and forwards slightly, before slowly moving forward, but completely broke down over the arena spikes near Matilda's CPZ. As Matilda moved in to attack Vector, T 2 reversed away, but reversed too far and accidentally drove into the pit of oblivion under absolutely no pressure. Despite this, the House Robots all continued attacking Vector. Shunt and Matilda attacked the shell, which held up well but when Shunt axed the arm, the bottom half of the arm broke off.
- "You can see that yellow lifting arm - lifts, shreds, pokes, cuts hair, drives a car, works a computer...does just about everything, that arm, except...move!"
- — Jonathan Pearce
As Cease was called, the judges ruled that Vector had not been sufficiently mobile to qualify for the second round of the heat, therefore T 2 progressed into the next round instead, eliminating Vector from the competition.
- "Let's be honest, Vector didn't do anything. I think that's key. See I think Vector was immobilised right from the start, therefore T 2 should go through."
- — Jonathan Pearce's opinion

After Series 3, Vector made an appearance at the Somerset Steam Spectacular event hosted by Roger Plant, though who it fought at the event is unknown.[2]
Trivia[]
- Vector was one of the few robots to lose in the first round of Series 3 without ever leaving its starting area, alongside Max Damage and Plunderstorm. This also occurred to Panzer in a Heat Final.
