Not to be confused with the robot of the same name which withdrew from Series 3 and failed to qualify for Series 4, VenoM.
Venom was a heavyweight robot which intended to be entered in Series 3 of Robot Wars. It is currently unknown whether the team attempted to qualify for any other series.
Design[]
Unfortunately, little is known about Venom's design as no images are available of the robot. However, the team mention on their website that Venom sported a powerful axe powered by a car starter motor.
Team Venom Robotics were inspired by US competitor frenZy, who featured in an exclusive video included with team captain Leo being a Robot Wars Club member. The robot was estimated to have cost £1800. Venom's chassis was made using steel box section, and the team mention it being armoured in 2mm Lexan and either 8mm aluminium or steel if weight would allow for it. It is unknown for certain which metal the team opted for.
The team claimed Venom could hit up to 35mph thanks to its combination of drive motors and batteries. If true, this would have made it one of the fastest robots in all of classic Robot Wars.[1]
A plywood prototype of Venom was constructed so the team could get used to working with electronics and controlling a robot, and brought it to an event held by Kim Davies in Cwmbran on 12th December 1998.
A successor to Venom was planned, a walking robot called Psychosis. However, it is unknown whether this robot became anything more than just a design, and the team's website does not elaborate on this[2].
