Viking was a competitor robot that attempted to enter Series 5 of Robot Wars, but failed to qualify.
Design[]
Viking was a wooden robot covered in a checkerplate metal armour. The robot used wheelchair motors and wheelchair wheels as well as using motorbike indicators for decorative eyes. The robot was armed with a spinning disc, although this was removed prior to its qualifier battle under instruction from Derek Foxwell.
Qualification[]
Viking fought in the Sheffield leg of the Robot Wars Fifth Wars qualifiers. Here, Viking fought a four way melee against S.M.I.D.S.Y., Immortalis and Trident. Prior to the fight, Derek Foxwell prohibited Viking from using its weapon, forcing the spinning disc to be removed.
- "We attack Trident with the disk and I think it died there and then (well, it was dead when it landed, so we pushed it into the pit :) Immortalis was quietly wrecking itself against any immovable object cus they couldn't steer :( and Viking started tussling with us. This was the point where we lost drive again (low batts). We got shoved into a corner and managed to keep Shunt and Viking at bay with the disk, we got pickaxed again but the damage wasn't so bad. If we'd have gone for Viking first I think we might have won as the other two were BalsaBots but then, who can say :)"

In the fight, Trident failed to move which allowed S.M.I.D.S.Y. to ram it as Immortalis drove erratically around the arena, smashing into objects and damaging itself. Viking began to attack S.M.I.D.S.Y., which eventually lost drive itself. S.M.I.D.S.Y. attempted to get away from Viking, however, Viking and Shunt pinned S.M.I.D.S.Y. against the CPZ. S.M.I.D.S.Y. used its flywheel to keep Shunt and Viking at bay, but the axe of Shunt slammed into S.M.I.D.S.Y. at the end. Viking won the battle, but nevertheless was not chosen to compete in the Fifth Wars.
