- "...the concept was to slide under and topple people, what good are wheels when they don't touch the floor?"
- — Team Danby website[1]
Vindicare was a robot built by Team Terrafonics, later known as Team Danby, to enter Series 4 of Robot Wars. Ultimately it did not qualify for the series after suffering technical issues during the qualifiers and was scrapped shortly after.[2]
Design[]
- "our first true heavyweight, invertable {sic} and driven by 2x wheel chair motors, it had a pneumatic lifting fork set up..."
- — Team Danby website[1]
Vindicare was an invertible, two-wheel drive robot powered by two 24V wheelchair motors running on 36 volts, with a resulting top speed of 10mph.[2] Its weaponry consisted of a pair of pneumatic lifting forks intended to hoist and topple opponents over, similarly to those of established US Robot Wars and BattleBots competitor Vlad the Impaler.[1][2] This was powered by a system inspired by that employed by then-recently crowned UK Champion Chaos 2, itself requiring 2kg for the onboard CO2 supply.[2] Lifting capacity for the forks was stated to be one tonne, with Vindicare reusing a pneumatic actuator from Team Terrafonics' preceding super heavweight Toxin.[2] The robot's chassis adopted angled sides giving it an elongated hexagonal prism shape when viewed from the front.
