Yo Mama! was a featherweight robot which competed in the 1996 US Robot Wars competition. One of multiple robots entered by Bob Schneeveis, and designed to share the same chassis as his fellow 1996 featherweight entry Lorena, it reached the second round of the Featherweight Face-Off tournament before being eliminated by Spike. Yo Mama! also fought in the Featherweight Melee event, but did not progress beyond its preliminary round.[2]

At its core, Yo Mama! shared the same four-wheeled, box-shaped chassis and internals as Lorena. In American Robot Wars 1996, Bob Schneeveis explained that this was done so that he could swap each robot's top bodies over in between their scheduled battles in the featherweight class. Yo Mama!'s shell consisted of a steel top plate with a front ramming scoop, the former decorated in black and yellow hazard stripes. Additional features included a pair of halved sawblades and a rear axe, all mounted as static weapons for sit-and-spin tactics.[2]
Robot History[]
1996 US Championship[]
Yo Mama! first competed in the 1996 Featherweight Face-Off championship, facing Rampage in the first round. This battle was one of a number of 'Dual Matches' to take place in this weight category, occurring simultaneously with Spike vs Edgar the Hate Bug.
From the outset, Rampage suffered drive and clearance issues. Yo Mama! pushed Rampage against a side wall, where the latter became fully immobilized and was repeatedly whacked by an arena flipper. After almost a minute of combat, Yo Mama! secured a straightforward debut win.[2][3][4]
In the second round, Yo Mama! faced Spike, the other victorious machine from the 'Dual Match' pairing. Both robots faced 'electrical problems' before the battle even started; the servo mixer inside Yo Mama! malfunctioned, requiring Bob Schneeveis to completely rewire its internals.[5]
Yo Mama! started by driving into the upper mousetrap, spinning madly as Spike tentatively approached and attempted to use its rear lifter. It was soon pinned against a nearby mousetrap by Andrew Lindsey's machine, but avoided getting turned over and responded by ramming Spike with its higher top speed. Yo Mama! again tried to whack Spike with its side and rear weapons, only to be scooped up and pushed backwards across the arena center, into the upper-right flipper. The flipper paddle forced Yo Mama! up its opponent's wedge shape; Yo Mama! was left helpless as it was pinned against the wall and maneuvered into a mousetrap. After being directed towards and pinned in the lower-right corner, Yo Mama! lost the battle and was eliminated from the Featherweight Face-Off.[5][6]
Later on, Yo Mama! participated in the Featherweight Melee tournament, being drawn against Mad Dog and Bite Me in its preliminary round.
Starting from the left-hand side of the arena, it quickly pressured the scoop-wielding Bite Me. However, the subsequent head-to-head duel proved costly for both machines, as they eventually found themselves trapped between the upper mousetrap and the upper-left flipper. Yo Mama! ended up losing the battle to the more passive Mad Dog; none of the three competitors were ultimately chosen to fight in the Featherweight Melee Final.[7]
