Zap (also known as Zap!) was a middleweight robot that exclusively appeared in the first series of Robot Wars Extreme. It fought solely in the Middleweight Championship, where it lost to Typhoon after becoming immobilised.

Team Zap also won the Featherweight Championship in the same series with Beef-Cake.

Zap was a two-wheeled, box-shaped robot with a chassis made from steel and iron, transparent armour panels and yellow and black hazard stripes on its top. Its weapon was a pnuematic flipper that could lift at a maximum pressure of 750psi. The robot itself was capable of pulling a car, but was slow at 7mph.

Zap (left) lies on its back as Matilda attacks Doom

Zap competed exclusively in the Middlweight Melee, alongside Typhoon, former Middleweight champion Hard Cheese, the walkerbot Mammoth, Genesis and Doom. It immediately pushed and drove alongside Genesis as the battle started, before being buffeted away by Typhoon, triggering the latter's smoke bomb upon contact with its spinner. Zap attempted to drive away before Typhoon hit it again, before bumping into Genesis once more. Another hit from Typhoon sent Zap careering towards an entry gate, with Zap being completely immobilised as a result. After not initially being counted out, it was eventually pushed onto the Floor Flipper by Refbot, where it was thrown across the arena alongside Mammoth. Zap landed on its back close to Matilda, who flipped Doom into it after it was flipped by the Floor Flipper itself. 'Cease' was called, and Zap lost the Middleweight Melee - and the championship - to Typhoon.

Outside Robot Wars

Zap and Beef-Cake also competed in Robots@War 2001, where they won their respective weight categories. [1]

The team entered Techno Games 2001 with Crazy Critter, a box-shaped walker that competed in the Battery Sprint event. Crazy Critter broke down halfway down the course, but qualified for the semi-finals after the race's winner, Geyser Bird, was disqualified for excessive human intervention. Despite this, Crazy Critter broke down again in the semi-finals and did not qualify for the final as a result.
