Zomo was a featherweight robot that fought in the lightweight championship of the 1994 US Robot Wars competition and the featherweight championship of the 1995 US Robot Wars competition, losing early on in both competitions.

Design[]

In 1994, Zomo was simply made, being an RC car underneath a large metal mixing bowl placed on top. The robot was armed with a spike and had a spire on top. As the robot gained more damage it was bandaged with tape. Despite its size, due to the nature of the event, Zomo was allocated into the lightweight class.

In 1995, Zomo was given a smoother and wider dome, its spire was made larger and small lights placed across the dome. Zomo was also made weaponless this year round. In the featherweight melee final, Zomo was modified by having its dome removed, the spire placed at the front as a weapon and no armour protecting it.

Robot History[]

1994 Championship[]

In the first round of the 1994 Lightweight Championship, Zomo fought Spiny Norman in the first round. Battle began with the two smaller robots zipping around the arena before both charging face first into one another with Zomo's sloped body managing to bolt Spiny Norman upwards. Spiny Norman darted away soon after with Zomo chasing afterwards, however a second ramming attack by Zomo managed to disrobe the body armour, damaging itself rather than Spiny Norman. With limited mobility as a result of the damage, Zomo's movements slowed down while Spiny Norman span around the arena and charged into Zomo again, impaling the front with its spikes and knocking the shell off completely, with both the robots stuck to each other.

As a result of the draw, Zomo was forced to battle again to achieve either a victory or a loss, here it battled Satoru Special. Both robots began by spinning around the arena, with Zomo being the aggressor smashing into Satoru Special who retaliated by using its fireworks. Soon both robots found themselves around an arena flipper, being pressured in the corner before getting away, but Satoru Special's movements came to a halt as Zomo continued to smack into it and pressure it into a Mousetrap. Once again Satoru Special let off more fireworks but to no avail as Zomo pushed the immobile machine towards the arena centre.

In the next round, Zomo faced Pain Mower. The battle did not seem to last long as Zomo and Pain Mower charged into each other with the spinner managing to dent and rip the shiny dome of Zomo off, battering it with the spinning bar.

Zomo fought in the side competitions at the end of the event, the first being the "Escort" where it was challenged to protect a White Drone and escort it from one side of the arena to the other and avoid House Robot who patrolled the arena and attacked the White Drone or competitor. At first Zomo and the White Drone managed to get themselves trapped in the corner by House Robot, but Zomo and the White Drone managed to quickly dart around House Robot and straight to the end before House Robot had the chance to turn and attack. House Robot then made its way to the centre of the arena and battled the already victorious Zomo, flipping it and tearing off the outer shell.

Zomo also fought in both melees, the first being the lightweight melee. Here, Zomo fought, Andy Roid, Pain Mower, Julie-Bot, Spiny Norman and Bloodletter in a lightweight melee. Zomo was immobile from the start as Andy Roid made a fatal driving error and drove into a mousetrap, toppling it over. Meanwhile Bloodletter, Julie-Bot and Spiny Norman attacked one another as Bloodletter span up to speed but managed to spin its body due to gyroscopic instability. Eventually, an attack from Bloodletter caused Julie-Bot to become immobile on one side as it fought Spiny Norman alone, with both machines tentatively backing up and slamming into each other. Eventually the melee was called to an end and Bloodletter won the match based on an audience decision.

Zomo also fought in the end of event melee with other robots from across different weight classes, all of which were only available as a result of still being functional. Here, Zomo fought Ramfire 100, Tiny Tim, Doolittle, The Beetle, The X-1, Spiny Norman, South Bay Mauler. Battle began slowly for most competitors as The X-1, Spiny Norman and South Bay Mauler all targeted Tiny Tim, slamming it about in the corner of the arena, only for all machines to seemingly dogpile into one another. Soon The Beetle attempted to attack Ramfire, pushing it slightly as the latter attempted to join in on the dogpile in the corner. Doolittle managed to slowly crawl across the arena as Zomo, The X-1 and Spiny Norman battled one another while South Bay Mauler sped away to the other end of the arena, away from all other competitors and started to spin up to speed. South Bay Mauler charged into the corner once again, this time smacking into Spiny Norman, Zomo and The X-1, tearing off Spiny Norman's shell leaving it defenceless and weaponless, whilst also dislodging Zomo's shell. South Bay Mauler sped away again as Tiny Tim and The Beetle pushed each other then turning to The X-1 who seem immobile for a brief moment before charging away to attack Ramfire. Both Tiny Tim and The Beetle began suffering control issues with Tiny Tim going in circles with one wheel not working and The Beetle immobile against the arena side wall meanwhile the armourless Spiny Norman slammed into both The X-1 and Ramfire as Zomo attempted to attack South Bay Mauler. Both The Beetle and Tiny Tim managed to drive away from the arena side wall and join the battle as Ramfire became immobile as a result of Spiny Norman driving underneath and wedging itself and Ramfire stuck in the middle of the arena, The X-1 and South Bay Mauler attacked one another, with the former unable to use its weaponry correctly and The X-1 backing away while Zomo crashes towards the two and smacks into an arena flipper. Once again The Beetle had mobility issues stopping near the arena corner as Tiny Tim began pushing both Zomo and The X-1 into an arena mousetrap, here The X-1 began immobilised for a while. As the battle continued the arena wall opened up and House Robot emerged, slamming Zomo out of the way and driving around the arena, then The X-1, unintentionally reactivating it, before turning to Zomo again, flipping it against the arena side wall. House Robot began to attack South Bay Mauler whilst Spiny Norman managed to free itself from under Ramfire, however Ramfire was still immobilised. Tiny Tim and The Beetle once again broke down in the arena corner as South Bay Mauler was chased by House Robot and Spiny Norman who kept crashing into it to no avail. The X-1 returned to life again as it joined in on the chase while House Robot pushed the mousetrap hazard across the arena. South Bay Mauler soon trapped itself against the arena wall and the arena flipper while both Spiny Norman and The X-1 ran circles around the arena, avoiding House Robot. House Robot then managed to run over Spiny Norman, seemingly knocking it out as The X-1 and was pressured in the corner again. Tiny Tim and Zomo again sprang to life and both joined the battle where South Bay Mauler was hounded by House Robot, but South Bay Mauler fought back and managed to rip away one of the lifter arms from House Robot. Zomo, Tiny Tim and The X-1 pushed each other in a circular line as House Robot used its broken weapon as a thwacking mechanism and span around smacking the remaining machines. Tiny Tim attempted to shunt South Bay Mauler after it was distracted in attacking House Robot only for House Robot to change its attention to Tiny Tim, with the three pushing each other in the centre of the arena as The X-1 and Zomo became immobilised by the arena mousetrap. Eventually the melee came to an end with only Tiny Tim and South Bay Mauler remaining mobile, however, by an audience cheer, South Bay Mauler was declared the winner.

1995 Championship[]

In the first round of the 1995 Featherweight championship, Zomo faced Snickers. Both robots made a tentative start as they slowly approached each other, awkwardly avoiding one another before Snickers rammed Zomo only to back away allowing Zomo to slowly trundle along. Snickers drove awkwardly in circles before darting away as Zomo went back and forth with no clear tactic. Eventually, both robot met one another again with Snickers slamming into Zomo and impaling it with its spike. The two were thwacked by an arena flipper before being driven across to the corner of the arena where both robots were stuck to each other and being smacked by an arena flipper.

As a result of the draw, Zomo was forced to battle again, this time against Fuzzy Yum Yum. Battle began but Zomo was immobilised from the start. Fuzzy Yum Yum slowly drove across the arena but ended up driving into an arena mousetrap where it was caught several times by the mechanism before approaching the immobile Zomo and slowly tapping it several times before the match was declared over.

Zomo also battled in the Featherweight melee, it first battled Fuzzy Yum Yum, Gigan, Slomo 2, The Nexus 7 and Piranhabot. Piranhabot charged across the arena and slammed into Gigan as it crashed into Fuzzy Yum Yum as Slomo 2 rammed and got underneath Zomo becoming stuck under it for a while. Slomo continued to bully Zomo as Fuzzy Yum Yum darted across the arena and Piranhabot began sawing into Gigan near one of the arena mousetraps. The Nexus 7 charged across the arena and backed into Zomo with Slomo 2 assisting the attacks, both ganging up on Zomo. Zomo attempted to get away driving dangerously close to one of the arena mousetraps only to then drive directing into the second arena mousetrap where it was caught by the net. The net happened to wrap itself around the top spire of Zomo which resulted in the mousetrap lifting Zomo up off of the ground, flapping it up and down with Zomo unable to escape. As Zomo remained trapped, the other featherweight clashed in the top half of the arena where Gigan was smashed against the side wall and broke down. Fuzzy Yum Yum began using tape across the arena to entangle the competitors, driving across the arena and targeting The Nexus 7, while Piranhabot drove over the tape and began stuck. Meanwhile, Slomo and The Nexus 7 bashed each other into the corner before Slomo charged across and slammed into Piranhabot, unintentionally getting stuck on the tape also, as Fuzzy Yum Yum chased The Nexus 7 around the arena. Slomo managed to escape and charged under Fuzzy Yum Yum while Zomo's spire detached and allowed Zomo freedom again. The final four robots lingered around each other, nudging and pushing each other with no real effect. Suddenly, Slomo charged into the arena corner before backing away and slamming under Fuzzy Yum Yum and rammed it across the arena and slamming it into an arena mousetrap. Bothe robots returned to the fray at the top of the arena where Zomo was being battered by The Nexus 7, followed by Fuzzy Yum Yum before all four began chasing each other and occasionally slamming into one another. Eventually, after several minutes of little action the melee came to an end with Zomo qualifying for the final alongside Fuzzy Yum Yum and The Nexus 7.

In the Featherweight melee final Zomo was heavily modified having removed its dome and used its spire as a front spiked weapon, rendering it armourless. Zomo fought Fuzzy Yum Yum, The Nexus 7, KMM, Holobot and Snickers. As soon as battle began Fuzzy Yum Yum charged across the arena and slammed into KMM as Holobot managed to topple Zomo over immediately rendering it immobile for the remainder of the match. Unable to self right, Zomo's last match was uneventful as the melee was eventually won by Fuzzy Yum Yum.
